Are Auto Insurance Rates Negotiable?

Michael Lawson: Hi, my name is Michael Lawson and I’m with Lawson Insurance Group. I wanted to take a second and answer the question, are auto insurance rates negotiable? The short answer to that is, no, they are not negotiable. We are in a very regulated industry and insurance companies file their rates with the state.
Now, there are ways to decrease your premium if that’s what you’re looking to do. For example, you could increase the deductible for comprehensive coverage or collision coverage. You could decrease the liability limits you have on your policy or you could take off some of the non-required coverages like towing and labor or accident forgiveness or rental reimbursement.
The key in all this is to have a discussion with your insurance agent. This does a couple of things. It allows you to know what coverages you’re getting on your policy and make sure that those line up with what you want and what you need. It also makes sure that you understand those coverages so that in the event of a claim there are no surprises.
If you have any questions about your auto policy or if you simply don’t have an agent to talk to, we’d be happy to help you. Our number is (919) 846-2090. Make it a great day.
